Hawa Mahal .. a sneak peek into Jaipur’s royal past

When we think of Jaipur, many prominent palaces comes to our mind. One of them is this magnificent palace located in the heart of the city. The Hawa Mahal. Which means Palace of breeze. 

This palace, that resembles lord Krishna’s crown, was built by then  Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the year 1799 and was designed by Lal Chand Ustad. It has 953 small windows known as ‘Jharokhas’, the sole intention of which was to enable the royal ladies view the outside world without being seen.

A true crowd puller, this palace never fails to amaze its visitors by its unique honey comb type architecture built with red and pink sandstone . It indeed is a symbol of the royal past of Jaipur standing tall even after 200 years of its inception.
