McLeodganj – Shop, Shop and just Shop!

When I was in McLeodganj last November, I was hardly aware of the shoppers paradise that was about to unfold during my visit. I knew McLeodganj as the epicenter of Tibetan culture and the famous Dalai Lama’s office and temple which draws numerous visitors to this beautiful Himalayan town.  What I wasn’t aware was the variety of products the McLeodganj market has to offer the visitors of this beautiful hill town.

Coming out of Dalai Lama temple and walking down the street, one can easily spot the vibrant market, full of tourists, sellers and of course the large variety of products up for sale. The most popular items on display were the designer woolen garments, shawls, Tibetan carpets, religious items (incense sticks, idols, meditation bells and bowls) crockery, metal items, stone studded jewelries, musical instruments and many more.

I was quick to figure out that if I am good in bargaining, I can easily crack some good deals on these products. Consider getting a deal which is 50% to 75% lesser than what you get quoted in big souvenir stores in these towns. Yes, that’s true, and I was able to get such bargains easily.

It was also very good to see the market had a lot to offer to the young urban population. Designer modern clothing, bags, purses, handmade woolens were and instant hit among the youngsters.  And why not, the traders of the market knows the taste of todays buyers and they were quick to help them select the right stuff considering the buying patterns of these buyers. Impressive, isnt it?

The sellers were also very generous to allow me to click photographs of the products on display. Check out below for some of them.
